Choose a country, region or observance to list Grandparents' Day dates and see the next date from today. The calculator uses the calendar rule shown for that selection. All results are Gregorian civil dates. It also includes some related celebrations, such as Japan's Respect for the Aged Day and Poland's separate days for grandmothers and grandfathers.
Use the date to arrange a call, visit or shared present. Our gifts for grandparents guide helps choose the gift, while gifts from all the grandchildren covers organizing a group contribution. Delivery timing still depends on the seller and destination.
Choose the observance you mean
There is no single calendar rule covering every family. The selector separates places that share a date so each can carry its own source and scope. “Germany: Bavaria” refers to the Bavarian observance, rather than a national German holiday. France's option is specifically the Fête des grands-mères, for grandmothers.
Canada needs an extra distinction. Statistics Canada describes the national observance as the second Sunday in September. Manitoba's legislation instead specifies the first Sunday after Labour Day. Select Manitoba when you need that provincial rule. These dates coincide in many years but can differ; in 2025 the results are September 14 and September 7 respectively.
Some entries reflect community or cultural practice rather than a statutory holiday. For example, the Netherlands' June 4 date is documented by a museum's own celebration, and Hong Kong's October pattern by JCI Victoria's programme. The source table identifies the evidence used. It does not imply that every resident celebrates or gets a day off.
Read the list and countdown
Enter a whole starting year between 1900 and 2200 and one to 50 years to list. The final listed year must not exceed 2200. A start of 2199 therefore allows at most two years. Long results scroll inside the table. Blank or fractional inputs show an error until corrected.
Fixed rules reuse a month and day, such as October 2 for Italy. Weekday rules find a particular Sunday or Monday within a month. The US selection finds the first Monday in September, then adds six days: the Sunday after Labor Day. That produces September 7–13, so it is not interchangeable with “second Sunday in September.”
The first listed date follows your starting year. The next-date result and countdown use today's UTC calendar date, independently of that list. The countdown is zero on the selected day and advances to the following occurrence the next UTC day. Near midnight, your local date may differ from UTC. This is a count of calendar days, not a delivery promise or an event start time.
Worked examples
United States, starting in 2026: Labor Day falls on September 7, so the first result is Sunday, September 13, 2026. The next two listed dates are September 12, 2027 and September 10, 2028. A countdown viewed after September 13, 2026 refers to the 2027 occurrence even when the list starts in 2026.
United Kingdom, 2027: applying the first-Sunday-in-October pattern gives Sunday, October 3. This is a calendar projection of the selected pattern, not a booking confirmation for a charity event.
Italy, 2027: October 2 falls on Saturday, displayed as 2027-10-02. The month and day stay fixed; the weekday changes between years.
What these projections mean
The calculator applies the selected rule throughout the requested range. It does not reconstruct historical practice before an observance existed, or guarantee that future organizers will keep the same date. Source dates appear in the reference table so you can distinguish legislation, published examples and organizer records.
The Catholic World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly follows the fourth Sunday in July. It is a church observance, separate from national calendars. Before arranging travel or a public event, check the relevant organizer's current programme: an activity celebrating a day may take place on another date.
Worked examples
- United States, from 2026 — Labor Day 2026 is Monday, September 7, so Grandparents Day is Sunday, September 13, 2026; then September 12, 2027 and September 10, 2028.
- United Kingdom, 2027 — The first Sunday in October 2027 is Sunday, October 3, 2027.
- Italy, 2027 — Festa dei Nonni is fixed on 2 October, a Saturday in 2027.
Common questions
Is the US date always the second Sunday in September?
No. It is the Sunday after Labor Day. In 2025 that was September7, the first Sunday in September. Canada’s national second-Sunday pattern gives September14, while Manitoba’s provincial rule gives September7.
Is every option a national Grandparents’ Day?
No. Bavaria is regional; France and Poland include separate celebrations for grandmothers or grandfathers; Japan’s Respect for the Aged Day honours older people. The Catholic World Day is a church observance. The selected label and source identify the scope.
Why can the next date differ from the first date in the table?
The table follows your chosen starting year. The countdown always uses today’s UTC calendar date and finds the next occurrence, including today. Choosing a past year does not rewind the countdown.
